I think it is well thought out and fair, and I think baed on what I read and see on TV, it's fair.

Canada absorbed a lot of its Aborinals. You've got to think if the U.S. really wanted Mexico it would have made Mexico a state like it did Alaska.

But it didn't.

I think Mexico gets more benefit than anything else from its proximity to and relationship with the U.S.

Yes there are problems. And they might have been here first. But they settled in Mexico, not the U.S.

That is where they should stay. And not invite or expect the U.S. to solve all their problems for them.WithinWithouthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05545398587099834271noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28180198.post-59194188066988282502010-05-02T16:02:44.697-05:002010-05-02T16:02:44.697-05:00It is a very complex and complicated issue when de...It is a very complex and complicated issue when dealing with Mexican immigrants. For one thing, this country was founded by immigrants (who went on to steal land and exterminate the natives), but at the same time, we are wary of the dangers in this time and age.

People wonder why America is so harsh to Mexico but not Canada. The truth is, it's the drug war and the escalating violence that's spilling into the border states. Violent drug traffickers are operating on both sides of the border, and their activities put everyone in danger.

I feel for the immigrants who cross deserts and face dangers in the hopes of a better life than the one they left behind. Chances are, they'll take jobs that no Americans want--picking crops in the hot sun, cleaning rooms and trash and washing dishes, and doing landscaping and other labor intensive, low (sometimes illegally below minimum) wage jobs.

Yet, we also want to keep our borders secure and safe from violent criminals seeking refuge and spreading mayhem into this country.

So how do we balance out our need for Mexican labor and resources against our needs for safety and security? That's the debate that's going on--and has been going on since the founding of this country and since immigrants--from Europe and Africa and Asia have first started coming into this country, whether by choice or by force.

The answer is not going to be easy to find. But at least we're talking about it. At least ideas are being presented and debated and put into action and evaluated. It's just a first step, but it's an important one nonetheless, because it makes the rest of the nation wake up and pay attention. This country only works and succeeds when its people take part in its workings and development.eroswingshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06678990077292314028noreply@blogger.com
